Home of the University of Alabama, Stillman College, and Shelton State Community College, Tuscaloosa, Alabama is a college town if there ever was one. Tuscaloosa is also a city with important historical significance, as it was the state’s capital from 1826 to 1846. Though the historic capitol building suffered a fire in 1923, city government preserved the stone foundation and two columns which survived the blaze.
