The railroad finally arrived in eastern Montana in 1881, changing Yellowstone tourism forever. “Suddenly, with the rails here, you had visitors,” says Lee Whittlesey, Yellowstone’s historical archivist. “This meant an immediate need for transportation. But all there was were a bunch of ‘good ol’ boys’ who happened to have wagons and horses.” Thus began the first mechanized travel in Yellowstone Park—the stagecoach. Stagecoach travel continued in Yellowstone until 1917, when they were no longer allowed in the park. Thanks to a couple of companies in the two national parks, visitors to Yellowstone country can again ride in a stagecoach and imagine what it must have been like to explore the parks the way early visitors did. Rendered by the artists of Anderson Design Group, this classic western-style poster will look great as a print, canvas, metal sign, or postcard.
