Though the tale of Robin Hood is several centuries old (and loosely based on what some believe are real historical figures, but it’s impossible to know for sure), the best compilation of Robin Hood stories can be found in The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood of Great Renown in Nottinghamshire, an 1883 novel by the American illustrator and writer Howard Pyle. Pyle compiled the traditional Robin Hood ballads as a series of episodes in his classic book. The book tells the iconic and unforgettable tale of the mischievous Master of Sherwood Forest (Robin Hood, or “Robin of the Hood”) who lives the outlaw life with Little John, Friar Tuck, Will Scarlet, and his band of Merry Men, bedeviling the implacable Sheriff of Nottingham during the reign of King Richard the Lionhearted. To celebrate a classic story that still entertains readers to this day, the artists of Anderson Design Group rendered this iconic book cover, vintage poster design, and classic literature art as a part of the Literary Classics Collection, celebrating great books of all genres in 20th-century-inspired art, poster art, and original illustrations.
